Why Croatia

Ancient walled cities, island-hopping, and the clearest water in Europe.

Croatia rewards the traveler who gives the coast the time it deserves. Dubrovnik’s walled Old City, Split’s Roman Diocletian Palace, the lavender fields of Hvar, the medieval lanes of Korčula — each island and city has its own character. Getting Croatia right means choosing the right islands for your interests and giving each place enough time.

Lexi Blade designs Croatia itineraries from Florence — with personal knowledge of the Dalmatian Coast and the islands. Taryn Harrison adds depth from 25 years of planning multi-country Mediterranean itineraries. Between them, there is no island or city on the Croatian coast they haven’t covered.

Dubrovnik & the Old City
Dubrovnik’s Old City walls, the Baroque fountains, the marble-paved Stradun, and the Adriatic views from the cable car — Dubrovnik is one of the world’s great walled cities, and it demands at least two full days to experience properly.
Castle Stays & Boutique Hotels
Split’s old town is built inside a 4th-century Roman Emperor’s retirement palace — one of the world’s most extraordinary living ancient monuments, with restaurants, apartments, and a cathedral all within the palace walls.
Island Hopping & Adriatic Sailing
Hvar, Korčula, Brač, Vis, and the Elafiti Islands each offer a completely different character and pace. Private speedboats, catamarans, and sailing charters connect them all. Juniper coordinates every transfer and can arrange private sailing charters for any part of the route.

Great European travel is an investment. Most clients spend $5,000–$15,000 per person for a complete custom Croatia itinerary — trips start at $2,500 and your specialist will walk through exactly what that looks like for yours.

Island Hopping on the Dalmatian Coast — 8 Days

Split · Hvar · Korčula · Dubrovnik

This is a sample itinerary — for inspiration only. Every Juniper trip is designed from scratch around you. Many clients love an itinerary very similar to this one — if something here resonates, your specialist can build something just like it (or better) specifically for your travel style, dates, and group.

1
Welcome to Split
Split · Dalmatian Coast+
Welcome to Croatia! A private driver meets you at Split Airport and transfers you to your accommodation in the heart of the city. Split is one of the most extraordinary cities in Europe — the old town is built inside a 4th-century Roman Emperor's retirement palace, with restaurants, apartments, and a cathedral all coexisting within the ancient walls. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring at your leisure and let the city's particular atmosphere settle in.
Overnight: Split
After breakfast, a privately guided tour of Split's extraordinary historical and cultural landmarks. Diocletian's Palace is the heart of the city — not a museum but a living neighbourhood, with the Peristyle at its centre and the Cathedral of Saint Domnius rising from what was once the Emperor's mausoleum. Prokurative Square, the Vestibule, the Meštrović Gallery, and the waterfront Riva promenade round out a full morning. The afternoon is yours: the old town rewards aimless wandering and the fresh seafood restaurants along the port are extraordinary. For the evening, sunset sailing shows Split's peninsula from a completely different perspective.
Overnight: Split
After breakfast, a catamaran or private speedboat takes you south to the island of Hvar — Croatia's sunniest island, with approximately 2,724 hours of sunshine per year and a character that ranges from lavender fields and quiet hilltop villages to some of the liveliest waterfront bars in the Adriatic. Arrive in Hvar Town, check in to your hotel, and spend the afternoon getting acquainted with one of Croatia's most beautiful island towns.
Overnight: Hvar Town
A full day on Hvar at whatever pace suits you. The Tvrdjava Fortica fortress on the hillside above Hvar Town offers the best panoramic views of the old town and the Pakleni Islands scattered across the water below. A driver can take you to the quieter interior of the island — lavender fields, family-run wineries, and the tiny village of Velo Grablje. Or simply find a spot on the water, hire a small boat, and spend the day exploring the Pakleni Islands and their clear-water coves.
Overnight: Hvar Town
A leisurely morning in Hvar before a catamaran transfer to Korčula — one of the best-preserved medieval walled towns in the entire Mediterranean, believed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. Arrive, check in, and set out to explore: the narrow herringbone-pattern streets are designed to channel sea breezes and funnel away rainwater. A water taxi can take you to nearby villages. The Pošip white wine from Korčula is among Croatia's finest — your specialist can arrange a private tasting at a local winery.
Overnight: Korčula Town
A final morning in Korčula — the atmosphere of the old town in the early hours, before the day boats arrive, is something travelers consistently describe as the most peaceful moment of the trip. A catamaran or private speedboat then takes you to Dubrovnik, arriving in the mid-afternoon. The Pearl of the Adriatic announces itself completely: the ancient walls rising from the sea, the red-roofed buildings within, and the Adriatic stretching away in every direction. Check in to your hotel — ideally with a sea view — and explore the Old City in the evening.
Overnight: Dubrovnik
A full day in one of the world's most extraordinary walled cities. A guided walking tour of the Old City takes you through the history of the Republic of Ragusa — the independent city-state that kept Dubrovnik prosperous and safe for over four centuries. The Stradun, the Rector's Palace, the Franciscan Monastery with its medieval pharmacy, and the city walls themselves are all extraordinary. We strongly recommend walking the walls early — before it gets hot and before the cruise ship crowds arrive. The cable car to Mount Srđ in the afternoon gives you a panoramic view of the entire city and coast.
Overnight: Dubrovnik
After breakfast, a private driver takes you to Dubrovnik Airport for your return flight. Most travelers leave Croatia already planning which island to spend more time on next visit — and which restaurant to return to first. Your Juniper specialist remains reachable throughout departure day.

July and August are peak season: Dubrovnik and Hvar in particular become very crowded and expensive.
