Why Switzerland

Switzerland didn’t just build the Alps — it built the finest network of ways to experience them.

The Swiss Travel Pass unlocks a rail network without equal in Europe — connecting Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Zermatt and Geneva with a punctuality and scenic quality that makes every journey part of the experience. Add to that the Glacier Express, the GoldenPass Belle Époque, the Jungfraujoch rack railway, and Pilatus’s cogwheel climb — and the train itself becomes the destination.

Lexi Blade is Juniper’s Switzerland lead, designing Alpine itineraries with the same depth she brings to Italy — knowing which summit to visit in which order, which hotel has the best Matterhorn view, and how to pace a Switzerland trip so it doesn’t blur into one mountain after another. Every Juniper Switzerland itinerary includes the Swiss Travel Pass. Every Glacier Express and GoldenPass seat is pre-reserved.

Glacier Express Pre-Reserved
The world’s most famous slow train sells out weeks ahead in summer. Juniper books your panoramic carriage reservation the moment your itinerary is confirmed — this is the single most important reason not to book Switzerland independently in peak season.
Jungfraujoch — Top of Europe
At 3,454 m, Europe’s highest railway station is one of the most extraordinary experiences in the Alps. Juniper includes the round-trip rail ticket in every relevant itinerary — an investment of CHF 220+ per person that would otherwise need to be arranged separately.
Chalets & Mountain Hotels
Car-free Zermatt’s boutique chalets with Matterhorn views. Interlaken boutique hotels with Bernese Alps terraces. Lucerne lakeside 4-stars. Juniper hand-selects every property with the same criteria: character, position, and personal vetting by your specialist.

Switzerland is one of Europe’s most expensive destinations. Most clients invest $5,000–$14,000 per person for a complete Swiss itinerary — your specialist will walk through exactly what that looks like for your group and dates.

1
Arrive in Zurich
Zurich+
Welcome to Switzerland! A private driver meets you at Zurich Airport and transfers you to your city-center hotel. After settling in, enjoy a guided walking tour of Zurich's beautifully preserved Old Town — the Grossmünster cathedral, the medieval Guild Houses along the Limmat River, and the iconic Bahnhofstrasse shopping boulevard. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Swiss dinner at a local restaurant before heading back to your hotel.
Overnight: Zurich
A full day to explore Zurich as you wish. The Kunsthaus Zürich art museum holds one of Switzerland's finest collections. The Swiss National Museum tells the story of the country's extraordinary history. A tram ride up to Uetliberg Mountain gives you panoramic views of the city, the lake, and the Alps on a clear day. In the evening, a dinner cruise on Lake Zurich is one of the most atmospheric ways to experience the city from the water.
Overnight: Zurich
Board the scenic train from Zurich to Lucerne — a journey through rolling Swiss countryside that arrives in one of Europe's most beautiful lakeside cities. Explore Lucerne's Chapel Bridge, the 14th-century covered wooden bridge that is the symbol of the city, the adjacent Water Tower, and the Lion Monument — the carved dying lion that Mark Twain called “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.” A leisurely afternoon boat cruise on Lake Lucerne with views of the surrounding Alps is the ideal introduction to the scale of the Swiss landscape.
Overnight: Lucerne
An excursion to Mount Pilatus — riding the world's steepest cogwheel railway to the summit at 6,995 feet, with panoramic views of the Alps and the lakes below. Spend the afternoon hiking the summit trails or relaxing at the mountain restaurant with a view that stretches on clear days to the Black Forest. Return to Lucerne in the early evening.
Overnight: Lucerne
A free day to explore Lucerne at your own pace. The Swiss Museum of Transport is one of the most impressive in Europe — particularly its railway history section. The local markets in the Old Town reward a morning wander. For outdoor enthusiasts, day hikes through the forests above the lake or a rental bike along the lakeside are both excellent. Dinner on your own at one of Lucerne's excellent restaurants.
Overnight: Lucerne
Travel from Lucerne to Interlaken — the adventure capital of Switzerland, nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz with the Bernese Alps rising on every side. Arrive and take the funicular up to Harder Kulm for the panoramic view that is one of the most photographed in Switzerland — two lakes, the town below, and the full sweep of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Spend the evening exploring Interlaken's parks and lakeside.
Overnight: Interlaken
The centerpiece of the itinerary: the cogwheel train journey to Jungfraujoch at 11,332 feet — the highest railway station in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The journey up through the Eiger and Mönch is extraordinary in itself. At the summit: the Ice Palace (tunnels and sculptures carved entirely from glacial ice), the Sphinx Observatory, and the Aletsch Glacier — the longest glacier in the Alps. On a clear day the views extend to the Vosges in France and the Black Forest in Germany. Return to Interlaken for a relaxing evening.
Overnight: Interlaken
A full day in Interlaken, entirely at your pace. Adventure seekers can opt for paragliding from the Schilthorn — one of the most spectacular tandem experiences in the Alps — white-water rafting on the Lütschine River, or a canyoning excursion. Those who prefer something gentler will find a boat ride on Lake Thun with views of Thun Castle, or a walk through the extraordinary Lauterbrunnen Valley — with its 72 waterfalls — equally unforgettable. The funicular to Harder Kulm for sunset is one of the finest views in Switzerland.
Overnight: Interlaken
Depart Interlaken and take the train south to Zermatt — a car-free village at the foot of the Matterhorn, and one of the most iconic destinations in all of Switzerland. The approach by train through the Rhone Valley and then the final climb into Zermatt is beautiful. Upon arrival, explore the village's charming car-free streets, visit the Matterhorn Museum to understand the extraordinary history of the first ascent in 1865, and enjoy dinner in one of Zermatt's excellent mountain restaurants.
Overnight: Zermatt
Ride the Gornergrat Railway — one of the highest open-air cogwheel railways in the world — to the summit at 10,135 feet for the most celebrated view of the Matterhorn. On a clear day you stand among 29 peaks over 13,123 feet. Spend time at the summit, hiking the ridge trails or simply taking in the scale of the alpine landscape. Return to Zermatt in the afternoon for a leisurely final evening in the village.
Overnight: Zermatt
Board the train from Zermatt to Geneva through the Rhone Valley — one of Switzerland's most scenic rail stretches. Arrive in Geneva and discover the city's highlights: the Jet d'Eau fountain rising 459 feet above Lake Geneva, the UNESCO-listed Old Town with St. Pierre Cathedral, and the United Nations headquarters for those who want to understand Geneva's role as the world's diplomatic capital. A farewell dinner at a fine restaurant overlooking the lake is the ideal close to the journey.
Overnight: Geneva
Enjoy your final Swiss breakfast, then a private driver transfers you to Geneva Airport for your return flight home. Switzerland has a way of making travelers want to come back immediately — your Juniper specialist is reachable throughout departure day for anything that comes up.

What our Switzerland travelers say

★★★★★

“Everything planned by Juniper Tours went incredibly smoothly. Every driver and guide was wonderful and the one time we thought we might miss a train, because of unexpected traffic, our driver was on the phone with the 24/7 service desk working to book new tickets for us. I was very impressed with the service and the app.”

Common Questions

Switzerland travel questions

June through September is ideal for mountain hiking and outdoor activities — all scenic railways fully operational, trails snow-free, and the Alps at their most spectacular. December through February suits winter sports enthusiasts and Christmas market visitors. March through May sees shoulder-season pricing but partial trail and excursion closures due to residual snow.
For most Juniper Switzerland itineraries, yes — the pass pays for itself by Day 3. It covers unlimited travel on the entire SBB rail network, PostBus, lake steamers, and city transport. It also gives 25–50% discounts on most mountain excursions. On a 7-8 day Swiss itinerary using trains between Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken and Zermatt, plus steamers and city transport, the pass typically saves $200–400 per person versus individual tickets.
Yes — the Glacier Express panoramic carriages sell out weeks ahead in peak summer. A seat reservation is required in addition to your Swiss Travel Pass. Juniper books your reservation at the moment your itinerary is confirmed, which is one of the key advantages of travelling with a specialist. Attempting to book independently in July or August often means waiting days for availability.
Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe. Expect to budget CHF 80–150 per person per day for lunches, dinners not included in your package, and incidentals. The Swiss Travel Pass dramatically reduces transport costs, and Juniper pre-includes most key excursions (Jungfraujoch, Pilatus, Gornergrat) so you know exactly what the total cost is before you travel.
Absolutely — our Switzerland & Italian Alps itinerary continues from Zermatt into Milan, Lake Como and the Dolomites. Switzerland also connects easily with Lyon and Paris by TGV from Geneva. Many clients combine 5–6 days in Switzerland with a week in Provence or northern Italy. Your Juniper specialist will design the right balance for your travel dates.
