Why England & Wales

England and Wales are countries that reward the traveller who ventures beyond London.

London is one of the great cities of the world — and three days barely scratches it. But the country that surrounds it has more depth per square mile than almost anywhere else on earth. The Cotswolds’ honey-stone villages. Bath’s Georgian perfection. The Lake District’s fells. And then Wales — a country so different from England in language, character and landscape that most American visitors are entirely unprepared for it.

Taryn Harrison has designed British Isles itineraries for 25 years — from London-first classics to Wales-focused deep dives and combinations with Ireland and Scotland. Audrey Gabrys adds specialist depth across the UK’s walking and countryside routes. Between them, there is no corner of England or Wales they haven’t covered.

Wales — The Hidden Country
Most visitors to the UK never reach Wales — which is one of the best reasons to go. Snowdonia’s peaks, the Brecon Beacons’ waterfalls, the UNESCO castles at Caernarfon and Conwy, and a living Celtic language spoken in the villages. Juniper builds Wales itineraries with the same depth as any other destination.
Country House Hotels
England and Wales have a category of accommodation that doesn’t exist elsewhere — the country house hotel. Historic manor houses converted to 4 and 5-star properties, set in parkland with croquet lawns and afternoon tea. Juniper selects the ones with genuine character and personally vets every property.
British Isles Combination Trips
England and Wales combine naturally with Ireland (via Dublin), Scotland (via Edinburgh), or both. Taryn Harrison has designed hundreds of British Isles multi-country itineraries — London, the Cotswolds, Dublin, and the Wild Atlantic Way is one of Juniper’s most-requested combinations.

Most clients spend $4,000–$10,000 per person for a complete UK itinerary — trips start at $2,500 and your specialist will walk through exactly what that looks like for yours.

The British Museum and the National Gallery in the morning, then Borough Market for lunch and an afternoon at leisure — the West End for theatre, or a Thames river cruise down to Greenwich.

A scenic drive north with a stop in Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace, before arriving in Manchester for the evening.
Overnight: Manchester
Into the fells: a Lake Windermere cruise, the villages of Ambleside and Grasmere, and Wordsworth's Dove Cottage. Your country-house hotel sits among the lakes.
Overnight: Lake District
A free day to walk the fells, take a guided low-level hike with one of Juniper's walking guides, or simply enjoy the hotel grounds and a long lunch beside the water.

Common Questions

England & Wales travel questions

May through September gives the longest daylight hours and most reliable weather. The Cotswolds and Lake District are at their most beautiful in late May and June — wildflowers on the fells, rapeseed fields still yellow. July and August are the most crowded months in London. Late September offers lower prices, fewer crowds, and remarkable golden-hour light across the countryside. Wales is generally wetter than England but dramatically beautiful in any season.
Most visitors adapt within a day or two, particularly outside of cities. The main adjustment is roundabouts, which operate on the give-way-to-the-right principle. For clients less confident with UK driving, Juniper arranges private driver-guides for rural sections, or builds in train connections between cities. London itself is not recommended for self-drive — the congestion charge zone, narrow streets, and parking costs make private transfers or public transport far more practical.
For Bath, Bristol, and the Cotswolds, a private transfer or hire car is most flexible. National Rail connects London Paddington to Bath in 90 minutes and to Bristol in under 2 hours. For Wales, the M4 motorway runs directly to Cardiff from London (2 hrs driving), and a train connects Paddington to Cardiff in under 2 hours. The Lake District is best reached by train to Windermere from London Euston via Oxenholme (3.5 hrs). Juniper builds the right transport mix for each section.
Yes — this is one of Juniper's most popular combinations. London, Dublin, and Edinburgh are all connected by flights (under 1.5 hrs). A 14-day trip might spend 4 nights in London, 4 in Ireland, and 4 in Scotland with 2 days in the Cotswolds or Lake District en route. Taryn Harrison has designed hundreds of these multi-destination British Isles itineraries and will know exactly what works for your travel style and dates.
Excellent — the Tower of London, Stonehenge, castles, and steam railways appeal to all ages. Wales is particularly strong for active families: Snowdonia hiking, coasteering on the Pembrokeshire coast, and the Brecon Beacons waterfalls are genuinely memorable for children and adults alike. Juniper builds in appropriate pacing for families with younger travellers.
